Agglomeration & Wet Granulation
In fluid-bed granulation, high-sheer granulation or continuous granulation, MALTRIN maltodextrins are excellent binders and carriers. They are especially effective in chewable formulas where they are not only binders, but can smooth out the mouthfeel and flavor of gritty or bitter active ingredients. They are ideal for children’s products. The cold water solubility and low viscosity make them easy to use in production.
Direct Compression Tablets
Used as binders, carriers or diluents, MALTRIN® and MALTRIN QD® maltodextrins and corn syrup solids can regulate sweetness and mouthfeel of direct compression tablet formulations. They improve the hardness of the tablet, reduce friability and alleviate capping problems. The choices in bulk density, particle size and dextrose equivalence allow the formulator to fit the MALTRIN® product to the formulation.
Aqueous Film Coating
MALTRIN® maltodextrins are excellent film formers used to increase the solids in aqueous film coating solutions. Increasing solids concentration of the solutions allows the desired weight gain to be delivered to the tablet, granule or capsule in less time. They also enhance the gloss and colour of the finished coating. The low viscosity, cold water-solubility and inert properties of MALTRIN® maltodextrins make them ideal polymers to work with in production.
Dry Blends
MALTRIN® and MALTRIN QD® maltodextrins and corn syrup solids are excellent bulking and carrying ingredients for dry blends. The wide variety of particle sizes and bulk densities available enables the formulator to select the best product for their particular application. Low hygroscopicity, good flow properties and instant solubility make MALTRIN QD® carbohydrates outstanding ingredients for reconstituted products.
Capsules
The flowability and compaction properties of MALTRIN® and MALTRIN QD® maltodextrins are perfect for allowing the formation of plugs when using high-speed capsule-filling equipment. MALTRIN® products are effective carriers and bulking agents for filling two-piece, hard gelatin capsules or soft gelatin capsules. They are also excellent adhesive agents when used in the shell layer of soft, non-gelatin capsules.
Dry Granulation / Roller Compaction
MALTRIN® maltodextrins and corn syrup solids are effective binders in roller compaction due to their excellent compressibility. The wide range of DE and particle size available allows the formulator control over the compaction, hygroscopicity and solubility of the finished granules.
Liquid Pharmaceuticals / Syrups
The ability to regulate osmolality, sweetness and viscosity of syrups and other pharmaceutical liquids using MALTRIN® maltodextrins and corn syrup solids make them ideal ingredients for these applications. They can inhibit crystal growth in high sugar systems alleviating problems such as reducing cap lock on syrup bottles.
Nutritional Bars
MALTRIN® maltodextrins and corn syrup solids are a great source of energy for nutritional bars. They are readily digestible and the clean flavor does not interfere with the finished bar flavor. They are also functional carbohydrates, maintaining the moisture of the bar and keeping the bar soft and chewy for extended shelf life.
Medical Nutritionals / Nutritional Beverages
MALTRIN® maltodextrins and corn syrup solids are readily digestible, low-residue glucose polymers providing a carbohydrate source for hospital tube feeding diets, geriatric formulas, infant formulas, nutritional beverages and rehydration products. Quick Dissolve Films
MALTRIN® maltodextrins and corn syrup solids provide unique functional properties to oral quick dissolve delivery films. In the films, they increase solids without greatly increasing viscosity allowing for faster drying times. Their fast dissolution gives the formulator flexibility when using maltodextrins with other polymers to achieve desired release properties.
Medicated Creams & LotionsBeverages
The mild, non-irritating properties of MALTRIN® maltodextrins make them effective fillers and carriers for medicated creams and lotions. They build the solids of the formulations giving it more body and allowing longer playtime, which is especially desired for products that are massaged into the skin. They provide humectant properties as well.
Soft Chews
MALTRIN® maltodextrins help build solids in soft chew products and provide a readily digestible carbohydrate source for nutritional chews. These carbohydrates offer minimal sweetness and high solubility while presenting a smooth, creamy mouthfeel mimicking fat.
Spray Drying
The low hygroscopicity, high solubility and film-forming properties of MALTRIN® maltodextrins make them ideal ingredients for spray drying flavors or active pharmaceutical ingredients. They are used as encapsulation aids, carriers and binders. In production, the ease of drying maltodextrins benefits the products and processes.
Throat Lozenges
MALTRIN® maltodextrins and corn syrup solids are used to control sweetness, manage moisture and improve mouthfeel in cough drops and throat lozenges. They inhibit sugar crystallization which increases shelf life. By varying the dextrose equivalence, pliability can be added to the lozenge.
